devports: your dev ports from Terminal, Raycast and Shortcuts
Sometimes your hands are already in the terminal. The same project-aware list and safe kill are there too.
In short
In Settings, press Copy Install Command next to devports and paste it into Terminal. Then devports ports lists your dev servers, devports kill 3000 stops one and devports open 5173 opens it. The Shortcuts app gets List Dev Ports, Free a Port and Open Port.
zsh — ~/Code
➜ ~/Code
The commands
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
devports ports | Lists dev servers: port, PID, uptime, name and command, with [network] on exposed ones |
devports ports --all | Includes system processes |
devports kill <port> | Stops what’s listening, with SIGTERM; for a container or service it tells you the right stop command |
devports open <port> | Opens http://localhost:<port> in your browser |
The install command links the app into /usr/local/bin; it’s the app itself, so it updates with the app.
As a Raycast script command
Save this in your Raycast script commands folder to free a port from Raycast:
#!/bin/bash
# @raycast.schemaVersion 1
# @raycast.title Free Port
# @raycast.mode compact
# @raycast.argument1 { "type": "text", "placeholder": "port" }
/usr/local/bin/devports kill "$1"Shortcuts actions
- List Dev Ports returns each port with its name, ready for the next action.
- Free a Port stops whatever holds a port, with the same checks as the app.
- Open Port in Browser opens localhost on that port.
- Siri and Spotlight know them too: “Free a port with Portlivo”.
Questions people ask
- Does devports need the app running?
- No. It scans on its own and exits. It needs a licence or an active trial, like the app.
- Why devports and not pp?
- macOS already ships a
ppcommand, so the short name was taken.
